I grew up looking at the Campbell Water Tower, and only today did I discover whether or not it’s full of water, or empty. Right across from the tower, I played guitar at many gigs with my high school and college bands at clubs known as Smokey Mountain, Puma’s, King’s Head, and The Bodega. Before and after each gig, I looked up at that tower.
There use to be two wooden water tanks, but in 1928 they were replaced by the one 75,000 gallon steel tank you see there today.
That tank is…empty! It used to be full, and it was important to the local farmers.
I’m just glad it’s still there, because I like seeing it while driving on Highway 17: when I see the tower, I know I’m home.
