My review of The Oakland Zoo’s California Trail

The Oakland Zoo’s new California Trail exhibit features animals native to California.  Some may not necessarily live here any more for a variety of reasons.  To get to The California Trail, you need to take a free gondola ride with breathtaking views of the Bay area.  Once way up the hill, there are Gray Wolves, Grizzly Bears, Black Bears, Mountain Lions and more.  We were a little bummed that the wolves weren’t out.  They have a huge area to roam with lots of hiding spots.  I finally realized why communities freak out when there’s a mountain lion sighting.  I saw one yawn, its mouth was enormous!   Both my 10 year old son Bobby and I enjoyed the Grizzly bears the most.  In the viewing area, the only thing separating them from you is a piece of glass.  That’s the closest I hope I ever get to a bear!  We talked to one of the volunteers, he told us that one of the bears the zoo adopted had broken into a home in Lake Tahoe and was going to be euthanized.  That is until the zoo adopted her and her kids.  The volunteers are incredibly nice and very knowledgeable.  We had a great time and will definitely go again.

My 10 year old son and I went to The Oakland Zoo yesterday and checked out the new California Trail! The bears were the best! ~Joey
