In my pic, you see the sign for the best clam chowder this side of Highway 17. I get the Giorgio’s Italian Food & Pizzeria clam chowder from both their Milpitas and Foxworthy Ave. in San Jose locations. I love it!
They serve it on Fridays. If they enter it in this weekend’s Clam Chowder Cook-Off in Santa Cruz, I wouldn’t be surprised if they win the whole thing.
For the most part, I love the clam chowder from the Monterey Wharf better than the clam chowder from the Santa Cruz Wharf. I like the Dolphin Restaurant’s clam chowder better than the others on the Santa Cruz Wharf.
If you’ve never been to a clam chowder tasting event, and you’re going this weekend, here’s a little warning: even though the tasting cups are small, you really won’t be able to eat more than $10 or $20 worth. $10 gets you 6 little cups and $20 gets you 12 little cups of chowder. The first time I did it, I was surprised how fast I got full. Seek and smell out the best ones before you taste!
