It’s the Grateful Dead skull. It’s called “steal your face” because a red, white, and blue skull with a lightning bolt through it is found on the cover of their live album, “Steal Your Face” (recorded here in the Bay Area at San Francisco’s Winterland). The logo was originally used as a logo to mark the equipment cases of the Grateful Dead.
To see it at Shoreline Amphitheatre, you’d have to be backstage. To the left of the giant skull, you see the stairs which lead from the sunken backstage area (which includes the dressing rooms) up to the main entrance level.
Next time you get a backstage pass, check it out 🙂
