Once again, San Jose’s Joey Chestnut brings pride to the Bay Area. He was crowned the winner of the Nathan’s Famous July 4th hotdog eating contest. This is the 13th one he has won in 14 years! He ate 75 hotdogs AND buns in 10 mins breaking his record of 74! It’s typically held in Coney Island each year but because of the pandemic it was held in Brooklyn, New York in an undisclosed place. Only 5 contestants were able to compete in each competition (mens and womens) due to social distancing requirements.
I saw a video of his contest and I couldn’t finish watching it! lol. I can’t imagine eating that much. It looked like he was not enjoying himself and kind of struggling (but that is my untrained eye with eating contests). He mentioned in one of his interviews that at the 6 minutes point he “hit a wall” but he pushed through it and found his groove and eventually beat his own record by one hotdog.
Congratulations Joey! He won $10,000 along with eating roughly 21,750 calories in those 10 mins. If you think about it he has won $130,000 from this contest so far!
