A documentary of Robin Williams ‘ final days will be documenting his last days.  I don’t think many people know that he was battling a degenerative disease disorder called Lewy Body Dementia which Robin himself didn’t even know he had.  Some people just thought he was depressed but his wife Susan said in a statement published by Rolling Stone Magazine, “During the last year of the his life, Robin was confronted with anxiety, paranoia, insomnia, scary altered realities and a roller coaster of hope and despair.  With our medial team’s care, we chassed a relentless parade of symptoms but with very little gain.  It wasn’t until after Robin’s passing, in autopsy, that the source of his terror was revealed: he had Lewy body disease.  It was one of the worst cases medical professionals had seen.”

While my mother has a different kind of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, I can remember when my mother suffered from anxiety, paranoia, insomnia and scary altered realities too.  I really feel for Robin’s family and had they all known, including Robin there could have been some kind of treatment that could slow down the progression and help with the mental changes he was going through.

Be on the look out for the documentary Robin’s Wish which will have interviews as well.  It will be out on digital and video on demand September 1st.
