1. Fear of the number 13 dates back some 4,000 years to the ancient Babylonians, who saw 12 as an auspicious number for its divisibility by 2, 3, 4 and 6, which was disrupted by 13.

2. Old Norse mythology told of the arrival of Loki as 13th guest at a Valhalla banquet which resulted in the death of the god Baldur.

3. Norse myth also associated the goddess Frigga, after whom Friday is named, with sorcery.

4. The link between Friday and the 13th came with medieval Christianity, linking the 13 present at the Last Supper with the Good Friday crucifixion.

5. Fear of Friday 13th is paraskevidekatriaphobia or friggatriskaidekaphobia.

6. Every year has between one and three Friday the 13ths. This year has two; the other was in April.

7. The very rich US businessman Thomas Lawson wrote a novel Friday The Thirteenth in 1907…

8. …Lawson died on February 8, 1925. Five days later and he would have died on Friday the 13th.

9. In Italy, the unlucky day is traditionally said to be Friday the 17th, not the 13th.
