In my pic, see if can you spot the last piece of land in San Jose. You see Mt. Umunhum in the upper left corner, and on the far right in the middle is the last piece of land in San Jose. I mean real big piece of land: 237 acres just sitting there like a field with nothin’ on it!
It kind of looks like an airport runway, but it’s really just a giant piece of farmland, in the middle of the massive development of South San Jose at Snell Ave. and Branham Ln. I’m born and raised in San Jose, so I’ve been seeing empty land disappear more and more until this was the last piece left!
Silicon Valley is all used up, and prices are insane. The owner of this property, Mr. Cottle, turned down over $500 million for this land! At least he got a street named after him (Cottle Rd.).
It still looks like the last piece of empty land in San Jose, because Mr. Cottle donated it to Santa Clara County and the state of California on the condition that it never be commercially developed, be used as a free public park, and be available as farming land. So now the LAST piece of land in San Jose…dubbed Martial Cottle Park…is FREE!
