When I was in the 7th grade Spelling Bee at Castillero Middle School in San Jose (go Cobras!), I was eliminated when I misspelled “EnginEER” as EnginIER.” Oops. The student right after me got the word, “Bonus.” So not fair.
I’m pretty sure neither of us could’ve correctly spelled San Jose’s hardest-to-spell street name:
Do you recognize the street? The area? It’s in downtown San Jose, near Woz Way. Near the purple Children’s Discovery Museum.
I pass it on my way to Sharks games, concerts at City National Civic (San Jose Civic), and to eat at San Pedro Square Market, which I love because it’s like having two food courts next to each other.
It’s Auser…I mean….Auzuhray…er…uh…Awzeray…um…
Now that you can spell it, your next challenge is to pronounce it 🙂
*Aw-zer-ay-us (“aw” rhymes with “saw,” and zer-ay-us rhymes with “betray us”)
It was named after John Auzerais, an early pioneer of San Jose.
