The one you see in the pic is #5. Great views north toward the airport and downtown San Jose, and south toward Almaden Valley. One thing I love about San Jose is how quickly you can drive up to a great view. Have you been to the Mount Hamilton Grand View Restaurant up Alum Rock Ave.? That’s pretty easy to get to. Great view. That’s #4. The time is takes to drive to the view is factored in (less time being a good thing).
Here we go:
#5: Communications Hill (shown in the photo). You can see north toward our Sharks at SAP Center, San Jose Airport and downtown, and south toward Almaden Valley.
#4: Mount Hamilton Grand View Restaurant. Get there before sunset, and stay until it’s dark to see all the lights–that way you get to see San Jose two different ways.
#3: Mountain Winery: This concert venue is in Saratoga, next to San Jose, but the awesome view shows San Jose, Saratoga, Los Gatos, Campbell and more! From the Mountain Winery, I like to pick out the Pruneyard Tower in Campbell–pretty easy to spot.
#2: Mount Umunhum. It just opened to the public after decades of being closed off. Drive to about 3500 feet! Takes longer than the Sierra Rd. drive, but still pretty quick.
#1: Sierra Rd. off Berryessa/Piedmont in North San Jose. In five minutes you can gain enough elevation to see San Jose to San Francisco. Only place you can do this so fast!
I’m born and raised in San Jose, and still appreciate it’s awesomeness!
