If you’ve driven by Forbes Mill Steakhouse in Los Gatos, you might not have known there was a good chance some San Jose Sharks or 49er players were eating inside. Many live in the area and love the food there. What you also may not have known is that the restaurant’s name comes from the little known “Forbes Mill Museum” (which closed in 2014).
The best way to see this really cool building at 75 Church St., Los Gatos, is to bike or walk there along the Los Gatos Creek Trail. You’ll find it just under the Highway 17 over-crossing to Main St. When I took this picture, I rode my bike there and could see the cars zooming by on Highway 17 through Los Gatos, probably not realizing they pass by this historical gem every time they go to work or to the beach!
The building, a state historical landmark, used to be open Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 4pm. It’s collections are now part of the New Museum of Los Gatos, 106. E. Main St., next to the Los Gatos Police Department and Public Library, open Wednesdays 1pm-5pm, and Thursday – Sunday 11am-5pm.
Forbes Mill is an old flour mill built in 1854 in Los Gatos.
