Thursday the NHL Players association started the voting process to restart the season. A proposal to the PA is a 24 team playoff. This would deviate from the traditional divisional and wild card seeding in each conference.

The new playoff format would consist of 12 teams per conference based on their point total prior to the hiatus. The top four seeds to play for seeding. Remaining 6 seeds would have a best of 5 play in round to be in the playoffs.

This could possibly be a controversial proposal because every hockey fan knows a random team can get hot and win the Stanley Cup.

The NHL season has been postponed since March 12 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
