Is it super important to wear sunblock? Of course it is! Not only does sunblock protect us from harmful UV rays but also it keeps our skin looking healthy too! I read a quote from actress Jennifer Garner that speaks volumes, “Nothing looks better in your 50s than sunscreen in your 20s,” I just love that! It is very true.
Let’s get to the nitty gritty of the different levels of SPF and the significance of each:
SPF 30 is the most common level for most people and skin types. No sunscreen can block all UV rays, but what we do know is: SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB rays, SPF 30blocks 97% of UVB rays and SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB rays. So, the difference between 30 and 50 is about 1 percent.
Wearing sunscreen can reduce your chances of skin cancer. There are three main types of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun (all year long, and in any weather) or tanning beds is linked to all of them.
Aside from being diligent about wearing sunscreen make sure to drink lots of water when in the sun and wear protective clothing like a hat and long sleeves. Sunglasses are also very helpful! Have fun!
